This month Ellen Rule will share with us her love of small dolls, in her presentation of Mignonettes & Pocket Dolls. According to the Coleman's Encyclopedia, the name Mignonette originally referred to small dolls of various types made in France from 1875-1925. In more recent years, it has been used to refer specifically to French all-bisque dolls. Because these dolls are now extremely valuable, collectors look for less expensive German all-bisques to fill their collections, as well as modern reproductions. But any small doll can be a "pocket doll," to take on your travels, visit the doll club meeting, or just have fun with at home making tiny dresses and accessories. Bring your favorite "pocket dolls" (up to 9" tall) to show and share with the club. |

A pair of German pocket dolls from the 1914 Marshall Field catalog. This boy and girl in their outing costumes are 6.5" tall with glass eyes and open mouths with teeth. The dolls pictured below left are also 6.5", at bottom they are 5.25" with painted eyes. |

Personal Items for Food Pantry
This month we are collecting personal items for a local food pantry. Suggestions are toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, feminine pads, lotion etc. Your small purchase can make a big difference in someone's life!
LeeAnn Dolls Have Arrived
Betty Bezanson reports that the LeeAnn dolls were ordered at the January meeting have arrived. If you ordered a doll, plan to pick it up and pay for it at the February meeting. The nude dolls are $33. Dolls in underwear are $43 because of the additional shipping charge for them from the seller in Arizona. If you can't make it to the meeting, contact Betty to arrange to pick up your doll. The pattern to make a club dress including GSDC logo is also available from Betty for $3.
Help the Historian
Ruth Balla is asking for help to fill in the gaps in her historical records of the club's activities. She was unable to attend the August picnics in 2005 and 2006 and wonders if anyone took pictures. She would scan and return them to you. Please help her if you can to keep our albums up to date.
In Memory
At the January meeting, we voted to send $50 to UFDC for the Regional Director's fund in memory of Jessie Parsons and Zelda Cushner, who both passed away recently. Jessie was a former Region 15 director and Zelda, her close friend, was a well-known dealer and also very active in UFDC. Both women were members of the Boston Doll Study Club.
