GSDC June Meeting:
How to Display Dolls!

Where: Horseshoe Pond Place -- 26 Commercial St., Concord
When: Saturday, June 14;  Social hour from 11 a.m. to noon; Business meeting at noon; Program to follow

Hostesses: Brenda Thomas, Charmaine Rose, Carolyn Campbell, Joan Riel and Irene Colpitts

This month there will be a fun discussion by members on how best to display dolls.  Here, Denise Van Patten offers her  “Tips for Effective Display”:

There are many ways to display dolls effectively,display2.jpgbut here are some ideas to get you started:

Display dolls by size--Barbies with Barbie-sized dolls, Genes with other 15 1/2" fashion dolls.

Display dolls by type--bebes with bebes, poupees with poupees, and baby dolls with baby dolls.

Display dolls by color--dolls in all white here, dolls in bright red there (the first three suggestions can greatly help cut down on visual clutter in a room with a large number of dolls displayed).

Don't crowd your dolls!  If you have the space, don't push your dolls all together.  This creates a visual mess, and can actually damage your dolls outfits by crushing fibers.

If you have room, display your dolls in little scenes or tableaus.  If you have antique fashion dolls, display them with appropriate antique furniture made for them.  If you have Gene dolls, display them engaged in an activity or using their furniture.  Antique dolls can be having a tea party--vintage Barbies can be in a Suzy Goose furniture room.  Baby dolls in baby carriages and doll-sized high chairs, etc!

Display a doll time-line--if you have dolls from many eras, display them according to the time of their manufacture.

News and Notes

We are fortunate to have Denis Bastien, Leeann’s creator and our club doll’s “daddy” as our special guest at the August GSDC annual picnic. The theme of the day is "A Picnic in New Hampshire". Denis is designing event outfits for the Leeann and Lenny Dolls appropriate for the occasion. They will be available for purchase at the picnic. Please see the attached notice.

Dick Withington, a dear friend of New Hampshire doll collectors, passed this month. Our condolences go out to his family.
